Nava awarded contract to modernize federal grant infrastructure

We’ll help the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) modernize their legacy grants management system to improve digital experiences for grantmakers and recipients.

Nava is thrilled to announce we won a three-year, prime contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Simpler Grants Management. We’ll help HHS build a new tool that will eventually replace GrantSolutions.gov, a grant management service that supports the grant lifecycle for more than 1,500 federal grant programs. Together, we'll improve the processes for publishing grant opportunities, managing grants and applications, and determining and notifying awardees.

Nava is a public benefit corporation on a mission to make government services simple and effective. Backed by a decade of experience helping agencies incrementally modernize outdated technology, we’ll help HHS replace the legacy grants management system with a modern, modular, and open source solution.

“We’re excited to continue working with HHS on Grants.gov by modernizing the grant management experience,” said Marvin McLain, Vice President of Program Delivery and Nava’s Federal Health Portfolio. “This open source solution can help HHS simplify workflows, reduce operational costs, and improve digital services for grantmakers and recipients.”

Since 2023, Nava has partnered with HHS to improve the usability and transparency of the federal grantmaking process. This includes working on Simpler.Grants.gov, an open-source, modernized digital service that will replace all of the functionalities that grant seekers use on Grants.gov in a phased, user-tested transition. We’re also working with HHS on initiatives that make grants more accessible to organizations across the country — large and small, urban and rural.
