Nava is thrilled to share that we're launching our first state-registered apprenticeship program with the State of Maryland’s Department of Labor. The first cohort will be embedded on engineering teams across the company, working on government service projects and gaining industry-recognized skills that prepare them for long-term careers.

Nava is a public benefit corporation on a mission to make government services simple and effective. For over a decade, we’ve been building a community of talented engineers, designers, and product and program managers. The apprenticeship program is designed to support emerging talent by providing them with mentors and project experience.

“Supporting early-career professionals with mentors and resources will help advance the greater civic technology community,” said Sha Hwang, Nava’s Chief Operating Officer and co-founder. “We’ve run our own apprenticeship program in the past, and we’re deeply excited to partner with the State of Maryland on this shared effort focused on workforce development.”

Since 2024, Nava’s been working with Maryland to help build a paid family and medical leave insurance program that’s human-centered, flexible, and future-proof. We also have contracts with the state to support agile development and provide web development capabilities to help agencies modernize their services.
