Nava is excited to announce a new contract with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Human Services and the Commonwealth Office of Digital Experiences (CODE PA). We’ll help the Commonwealth improve the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) experience with modern, open source technology and tools in response to H.R. 1, recent federal legislation that mandates work requirements for state-administered benefit programs such as SNAP.
Nava is a public benefit corporation on a mission to make government services simple and effective. For over a decade, we’ve helped states deliver benefit programs on tight, high-stakes deadlines. With Pennsylvania, we’ll help relieve staff administrative burden through automation, intelligent tooling, and shared foundations for all SNAP modernization efforts.
“We’re thrilled to support the Commonwealth’s efforts to improve the SNAP experience for Pennsylvanians, while reducing error rates and saving taxpayer dollars and staff time,” said Sha Hwang, Nava’s Chief Operating Officer and co-founder. “Pennsylvania’s fast and delivery-focused approach to meeting these legislative changes shows how government can build quickly while also ensuring long-term sustainability.”
This year, Nava launched an open source software solution to support states in meeting the requirements outlined in H.R. 1. Our solution equips states with reusable and flexible software to reduce the cost, time, and risk of implementation of benefit programs like SNAP and Medicaid while avoiding vendor lock-in. This solution builds on Nava’s experience driving source projects with agencies like the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and states across the nation.
