Focus-Nava wins contract with U.S. Department of Education

We’ll offer engineering expertise to help the U.S. Department of Education improve cross-system functionality, ensuring an excellent user experience for college financial aid applicants.

Nava is thrilled to announce that Focus-Nava JV I LLC — a joint venture between Nava PBC and Focus Consulting — won a contract with the U.S. Department of Education’s (the Department) office of Federal Student Aid (FSA). For this 18-month, $4.3 million contract, we’ll work with the Department to improve the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) initiatives that span multiple technology systems.

Nava is a public benefit corporation on a mission to make government services simple and effective. That’s why we’re excited to support FSA’s mission of ensuring all eligible people benefit from federal financial assistance. We’ll field our deep engineering expertise to help FSA improve initiatives that cut across multiple systems, ultimately helping to reduce risk and more efficiently deliver new features and bug fixes.

“This is our joint venture’s first contract with the Department of Education, and we’re honored that we were selected for this mission-aligned work,” said Rohan Bhobe, Nava’s Chief Executive Officer and co-founder. “By partnering with the Department to reduce risk and improve efficiency, we’ll help FAFSA® become more stable and effective.”

This work will help improve experiences for tens of millions of people. Nearly 17 million students apply for federal student aid every year through FAFSA® and 42 million borrowers have accounts for repayment on federal student loans. This work will help FSA reduce the risk of system errors or improper payments, ultimately ensuring students receive the financial assistance they need.
